Doyle Trankina

     Biography & Resume

Doyle Trankina has been fascinated with dinosaurs for most of his life, and began selling original dinosaur sculptures in gift shops at the age of twelve.  Now, with a B.F.A. in Fine Arts from U.S.C. and five years experience working with the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, Doyle is emerging as a leading young Paleo Artist, producing 2D and 3D reconstructions of extinct species.
Collaborating with Paleontologists and Museum professionals in the field, the museum and the studio, his work has appeared in National Geographic News, Pour La Science, the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, Morrow Bay Museum of Natural History, Jura Museum of Bavaria, and his work in "Dogs: Wolf, Myth, Hero, Friend" is now touring major Natural History Museums throughout the United States.
Doyle has taught sculpture and special effects workshops at U.S.C., and developed the curriculum for a Paleo Sculpture course for the Adventures in Nature Program at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, teaching children basic techniques of paleontological reconstructive art.  He also has direct field experience in fossil digs, preparation, jacketing, molding and transportation.
Doyle has also worked extensively in the Entertainment Industry as a storyboard artist (music video "Evil" by Interpol), animation and toy designer,  prototyper and sculpture for prominent licensors including Pixar, Disney and Mattel.  Recently he has completed pre-production design work on the upcoming 3D animated film "Mightiest Little Monster," for Artsy Guys Productions,and is also developing toy prototypes for the project.  He is currently working as a Sculpture on "Species IV".  Doyle lives and works in Los Angeles, California.  If you would like more information about his work, current projects or have an offer of employment, please visit his "Contact Page."
